Dr. Ayşe Güç graduated with high honors in 2003 from the Faculty of Theology at Uludağ University. She continued her master’s studies in the Sociology of Religion at the same university and received her MA degree in 2007 with her thesis titled “The Influence of Feminist Discourse on Islamic Women Writers.” Between 2006 and 2008, she worked as a research assistant at Uludağ University.
In 2008, she was accepted into the PhD program at Australian Catholic University. In addition to receiving the EIPRS scholarship, which covered her tuition expenses, she was awarded the prestigious ACUPA scholarship, granted annually to only one international student. Leaving her doctoral studies in Turkey, she continued her academic work abroad. In her doctoral research, Güç focused on cultural belonging by examining intergroup relations in Mardin. For this study, she conducted three periods of fieldwork: short-term visits in 2009 and 2010, and a long-term study in 2011. Within the scope of her postdoctoral research, she returned to the field in Mardin in 2017 and 2018 to investigate the effects of transnational migration. Güç has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Yıldırım Beyazıt University and at the ICDD of University of Kassel. Since August 2014, she has been working full-time at Ankara Social Sciences University. Additionally, between November 2015 and April 2016, she served as a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity and as a visiting faculty member at the ICDD of University of Kassel.
In her doctoral and postdoctoral research, Ayşe Güç has focused on interethnic and interreligious relations in Mardin, as well as on migration and the perception of space. Her research interests include socio-cultural boundaries, cultural prejudice, the reconstruction of space, migration and transnationalism, and Islamist feminist discourse. She has presented papers at national and international conferences and published articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
